Siedleczka Cemetery

This page is to gather information about the Jewish cemetery in Siedleczka, Poland, which served the nearby town of Kańczuga and other smaller towns and villages in the area (see Nearby Villages Project for a list of towns that might have buried their dead there in addition to Kańczuga).

Siedleczka Cemetery in 2019

The cemetery was in a very bad shape when in 2008 it was cleared of brush, and a wall erected around the cemetery. A memorial to the Jews from the town who were murdered in 1942 was put in place there as well. See the Siedleczka Cemetery Restoration Project web site, and this contemporaneous article in the Jerusalem Post: Galician Jewish Cemetery Restored about that initial restoration.

A second restoration took place in the summer of 2019, spearheaded by Patryk Czerwony, where the overgrowth was cut back, the rusting gates re-painted, and the graves straightened. See this article (in Polish): Polak z Nowego Jorku zainicjował uporządkowanie cmentarza żydowskiego na Podkarpaciu about Patryk’s efforts to clean the cemetery and memorialize the former Jewish community of Kańczuga (where he was born).
